About Aurora Golf & Country Club...

A family-friendly, private club

A Brief History

or over 80 years Aurora Golf & Country Club has been one of Northeast Ohio's most scenic and challenging golf courses.   Aurora Country Club opened for play in 1925 with 9 holes.  The other nine holes were completed in the following year.  In 1943 the club was purchased by Harold 'Pappy' Paddock, Sr. and the members purchased the club from him in the late 60s; it has remained member-owned ever since.

In 1967, 1969 and 1970 the club hosted the Cleveland Open.  Arnold Palmer once battled the course while competing in this PGA event, and along with Bruce Devlin and Charlie Coody, still holds the course record of 64. The record was equaled in 2003 by the Club's then Head Professional, Gary Trivisonno. The 1990's saw many changes at Aurora. Of greatest significance was the replacement in 1995 of the old original clubhouse with a modern facility. At the same time the Swimming Pool and Pool house were replaced and a new automatic irrigation and sprinkler system was installed in 1998/9.

Introduction to Golf at Aurora

Unlike so many of today's golf courses which are built into housing developments, Aurora was constructed in natural rolling terrain with the Aurora branch of the Chagrin River being a significant feature on 9 holes.  The limited housing development close to the course is mostly screened from view by mature trees and is sufficiently far away from the fairways that it is almost without exception not a factor in play.

While outsiders view Aurora as a real test of golf skills, members of all handicap levels agree that the course is fun to play and playing it never gets boring.  Club members benefit from accommodating tee times and enjoy the par 71 golf course, with it's picturesque fairways, woodland, streams and the magnificent roaming landscape.  Members also enjoy a full range of Instructional Programs and a fully stocked Pro Shop.

Swim, Social & Other Events

Families are made to feel welcome. There are programs designed specifically for all levels of play and "Social Golf" is very much encouraged; whether it is couples tournaments, interclub golf and dining events, fun evening events or night time golf.  The Aurora Women's Golf Association (AWGA) provides activities for those ladies who take their golf seriously and those who enjoy the social interaction.  The Junior golfer is not just tolerated but actively encouraged and the Club's annual Junior Golf Program attracts over 70 participants every year.

But golf is not the only activity at Aurora; once Memorial Day comes around the Pool becomes a very busy place.  There is an active swim program with lessons available for all ages and the "AurorAquatics" swim team is actively involved in competition with neighboring clubs.

Although golf is the primary focus of the club's membership, Dining, Social and Swimming activities are also very much a part of life at Aurora. The clubhouse and pool were completed in 1995 and the clubhouse provides quality dining facilities for golf and social members alike.

A wide variety of social events take place for members and their guests throughout the year.  In the summer months the patio is a popular place for cookouts or simply to enjoy a cool drink in a relaxed atmosphere.  The club's Grill Room and Dining Room provide opportunities for a variety of dining and kids are welcomed and have their own menu.  Kids are also catered to through a visit from Santa Claus during the Christmas season and the Easter Bunny makes a welcome appearance in the spring.  In the fall Halloween brings it own special event.

Adults can enjoy Texas Hold 'em nights and dining and entertainment events such as a Jimmy Buffet Pool PartyValentines Dinner Dance,  or special New Year Eve Dining.  The respective Men's and Ladies' Member-Member and Member-Guest golf tournaments are also major features on the social calendar.

Whether your passion is competitive golf or playing the occasional round with good friends, social events, family fun or quality dining, consider one of the available accommodating membership plans at Aurora.
