Golf Tips - The Basic Greenside Bunker Shot

he ability to play a bunker shot with confidence can be a big stroke saver for any golfer.

 As with all the shots in this series the keys to success are first to master the basics and then practice and more practice.

Club Selection

Choice will depend on length of shot

Choose from Gap, Sand or Lob Wedge

Grip

Normal grip

Stance

Ball forward - just off a line with the front foot

Weight slightly toward the front foot

Open stance

Club face slightly open to extremely open - depending on the distance of the shot
 

 

 

Swing Sequence

Swing is similar to that used for the Lob Shot

Hover the club head above the sand - remember if it touches the sand a penalty stroke must be charged to the score

Aim to strike the sand about 1 inch behind the ball
